PARADISe will not start up

Hi

I have installed PARADISe version 6.0.1 with Matlab runtime 2022a

When I open the program in WINDOWS 11, the startup screen ("PARADISe - Uncovering the hidden") shows up and then dissapears after some time - The program itself does not start up.

I have tried to reinstall the program (deleted PARADISe + Matlab runtime before reinstallation).

Do you have any suggestions, how to fix this problem?

Hi Guest,

That sounds extremely annoying. Unfortunately, there is not much to go on, but I do have some suggestions.

First, in Explorer, open the folder C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\PARADISe, are there any files or folders there? In particular, is there a folder named default-session? If yes, is there a subfolder called paradise-output and does it have any content (especially a *-diary.txt file is of interest for debugging)?

PARADISe starts up in the default-session folder and if that session is corrupted, this can lead to errors. In Explorer, delete the default-session folder. Does PARADISe then start?

If the above doesn't work, have you tried to start PARADISe as an administrator? In the past there have been some issues where PARADISe tried to write to a folder it didn't have access to. We have tried to remove this issue, but perhaps we are still unsuccessful.

Lastly, are you using the installer with or without the MATLAB runtime included?

Hopefully one of the above helps, but do let us know what and also if it the issue remains.

Best,
Jesper

Hi Jesper

Thanks for your reply.

The program now opens up without any issues, even though I didnt do anything to solve the issue, so that is a bit strange. But nice it now seem to work.

Folders and files, as you mentioned above, are present. I didnt try the "delete default session" and "run as administrator" options.

I use the program without runtime.

Hi again Jesper

I think, I found the issue related to the posts stated above.

The PARADISe program will only start up on my laptop, when no external PC screens are connected (via docking station).

The PARADISe program still works, when the external PC screens are reconnected to the laptop after startup of PARADISe (:

Hi again,

I am glad you found a workaround, although it is less than ideal.

It seems the problem is related to the graphics handling on you PC somehow. We have previously seen issues when the Java Runtime was not updated, as the graphics components are handled through Java. So updating might be a more permanent solution.

If that still does not solve it, then check if your graphics drivers are up to date. Usually, they are updated automatically, but sometimes it is nice to double check.

Of course, if you are satisfied with your workaround, then just use that 🙂

Best,
Jesper
